Class Title: A Ripple in Time: Mastering Non-Linear Plotting
Price: $55.00 USD
Where: On Your Computer
When: ON DEMAND, so ANY TIME YOU LIKE!
***Limited time only.
Most stories are told in a traditional Aristotelian three-act structure and progress from beginning to end in a linear fashion.
Yet, while this structure works for a vast majority of stories, it isn't the best fit for ALL.
Non-linear plotting is vastly different than the clunky flashback used by the newbie writer. There's a distinctive art to how the framework is constructed to best serve the story and thrill the readers.
A CAVEAT: Whenever writers deviate from a linear structure, there are always BIG RISKS involved. Namely, we can confuse and frustrate the audience.
Yet, some tales cannot be told in real time. There are certain genres that VERY COMMONLY use a non-linear structure...and for very good reasons.
From the unreliable narrator, to time travel, to hidden pasts that unlock the uncertain future our job is to draw the reader into our world and never let them go.
In this class we will cover:
- Discovering the core human story problem;
- What types of non-linear structures exist and how to choose;
- How to plot these unique structures;
- Ways to create dimensional and compelling characters;
- How to keep readers immersed in the story;
- Common blunders that confuse, frustrate, and infuriate readers...and how to NOT do that 😉
