A Ripple in Time: Mastering Non-Linear Plotting ON DEMAND

Class Title: A Ripple in Time: Mastering Non-Linear Plotting

Price: $55.00 USD

Where: On Your Computer

When: ON DEMAND, so ANY TIME YOU LIKE!

***Limited time only.

Most stories are told in a traditional Aristotelian three-act structure and progress from beginning to end in a linear fashion.

Yet, while this structure works for a vast majority of stories, it isn't the best fit for ALL.

Non-linear plotting is vastly different than the clunky flashback used by the newbie writer. There's a distinctive art to how the framework is constructed to best serve the story and thrill the readers.

A CAVEAT: Whenever writers deviate from a linear structure, there are always BIG RISKS involved. Namely, we can confuse and frustrate the audience.

Yet, some tales cannot be told in real time. There are certain genres that VERY COMMONLY use a non-linear structure...and for very good reasons.

From the unreliable narrator, to time travel, to hidden pasts that unlock the uncertain future our job is to draw the reader into our world and never let them go.

In this class we will cover:

  • Discovering the core human story problem;
  • What types of non-linear structures exist and how to choose;
  • How to plot these unique structures;
  • Ways to create dimensional and compelling characters;
  • How to keep readers immersed in the story;
  • Common blunders that confuse, frustrate, and infuriate readers...and how to NOT do that 😉

In the digital age, it is impossible to sell books---or anything---without first creating and establishing a brand.

But there are so many voices, conflicting opinions, and everything seems to change faster than we can keep up.

TRUTH: The simplest and most cost-effective way to build a brand is by using social media.

Correction. Using social media WELL.

There are a ton of options.

Facebook, blogging, Pinterest and OMG! INSTAGRAM!

*head explodes*

Authors are tasked with creating the brand (YOU+ BOOKS) then cultivating a thriving, enthusiastic fan base eager to be part of our success...oh, and we have to keep writing books.

Most authors already have a full-time job. Then, writing is at least another full-time if not at least part-time job.

Do we really want to add SEO expert, marketer, promoter, advertising expert, and on-line data analyst to to the list of jobs as well?

All authors need a brand, so this class teaches how to locate and cultivate your audience into passionate fans who BUY YOUR BOOKS!

How can you grow your platform and turn your name alone into a bankable asset? Not as hard as you might have been led to believe.

You DO NOT need to be a tech guru/mega-high-pressure-sales person to excel at this. In fact, best you aren't.

Yet, the reality is that in the digital age of commerce, consumers rely on brands more than ever in human history. They're overwhelmed and we can help them out….by finding US.

Consumers (which is code for readers) buy from who they know, like and trust. In a sea of infinite choices a powerful NAME is a tremendous asset.

Can you say James Patterson?

The single largest challenge all writers face in the digital age is discoverability and connecting with our audience is a challenge but nothing we can't handle.

This class will address:

What is a brand? How to make one uniquely your own.

How to BE YOU! You're a writer, not an insurance salesman!

Harness your imagination & creativity for better results (No one likes SPAM, so don't serve it!).

How to use this information to locate, engage and cultivate an audience.

Myths about exposure.

Common scams that will wreck your brand and earning ability.

Why most promotion is a waste of money.

A list of expensive and not-so-bright ideas for reaching readers.

Knowing when and HOW to promote.

***And YES, we will address INSTAGRAM.

Overall this class is about working smarter not harder. This class is to teach you to think strategically so all energy is focused. Sure, we have to hustle, but why not hustle and there be an AUTHENTIC PAYDAY for all that hard work?

GOLD LEVEL AVAILABLE: This is you working with me (Kristen Lamb) for 90 minutes building, defining, refining your brand and putting together a PLAN! Time is money and professional consulting saves BOTH.

****A FREE recording is included with purchase of this class.

Wizards, Wishes, and Washboards: Next-Level World-Building for Fantasy

Instructor: Cait Reynolds

Price: $99.00 USD Standard

Where: W.A.N.A. Digital Classroom

When: FRIDAY February 22, 2019. 7:00-10:00 p.m. EST (NOTE - 3 hour class!)

Epic Fantasy is one of the real double agents of the literary world. This genre simultaneously provides exotic escapism and wish fulfillment while at the same time serving as a ruthless mirror of contemporary society.

Whether it's magic or dragons or both, fantasy bends the rules and toys with the impossible.

However, it is also perilously easy to fall into the trap of bending every rule to make it easy for yourself, your plot, and your characters. When the fantastic becomes too fantastical, your world begins to lose its magic, and readers begin to distance themselves from the emotional impact of the actual story.

Even worse? Your world doesn't stand out, and readers don't come back. But don't worry. We can fix that.

THIS IS A 3-HOUR CLASS BECAUSE THERE IS LITERALLY SO MUCH TO COVER!

Come prepared to take LOTS of notes and ask lots of questions!

This class will cover a wide range of topics, including:

  • WTF is etymology, and why does it matter?:  What are the fundamental rules of creating names, vocabulary, and language;
  • This land is your land...: We will dig into geology, geography, cartography, and probably some other 'graphy-s', and how to use them literally in world-building;
  • Keeping it real: Tips and tricks for keeping your characters relatable to readers, even if they have tentacles/magical powers/chip implants;
  • Trope is as trope does: What elements of fantasy are 'required' for the genre, and how to separate those from the eye-roll-inducing tropes (I'm looking at you, servant-girl-turned-magical-warrior-princess!);
  • Thinking it up vs. thinking it through: Just because it seems like a cool idea to have glow-in-the-dark dragons doesn't mean it actually is, and who knew it would come back to bite you in chapter 17, stalling out your book, and...yeah...or, how to spot ye olde speed bumps before they wreck the carriage;
  • DETAILS ARE FUN!: This is the motherlode of all the different nitty-gritty details that either lure the reader into the deep end of immersion or leave them cold in the kiddie pool;
  • AND SO MUCH MORE...

A FREE recording is included in the purchase of this class.

Class Description:

It's a NEW YEAR and a NEW YOU!

Tired of starting book after book only to lose steam and unable to finish?

Do you finish, but your books keep getting rejected or they don't sell?

Do you finish, but it takes an ungodly amount of time?

No matter which publishing path we take, there is a DIRECT AND INDISPUTABLE CORRELATION between the quality of the books and the author's ability to keep producing more books.

Writers must possess the skills to produce at the levels that grow fans into fanatics.

Again, the writers who are making an excellent income are not doing it off ONE book, rather they are harnessing the power of compounded sales.

This class is designed to help you learn to plot leaner, meaner, faster and cleaner (even for PANTSERS!)

Learn the basic elements of plot, various plotting techniques, how to test your seed idea to see if it is even strong enough to be a novel and MORE!

Plotting GOLD

Need help from an expert either repairing your plot or plotting a new idea from the ground up? This is for you. Three hours working one-on-one with ME plotting your novel (or repairing one that isn't working).

Never met a novel I couldn't repair and sometimes the best way of learning is by DOING. We work together on the plot so you get a better sense of how to do this on your own!

Fiction ADDICTION: The 'Secret' Ingredients to Books Readers CRAVE

Class Title: Fiction ADDITION---The 'Secret' Ingredients to Books Readers CRAVE

Instructor: Kristen Lamb
Price: $55.00 USD
Where: W.A.N.A. Digital Classroom
When: SATURDAY, MARCH 2nd, 1:00-3:00 P.M. EST

Writing is more than stringing together description so lovely it makes angels weep.

What makes the difference between the meh and the magnificent? Why do some books hook while others collect dust?

What's that certain je ne sais quoi that makes some stories defy all odds and skyrocket to success? Conversely, why do some books have the cover, the ads, the promotion, and yet fail to every ignite?

While there's no magic formula that will guarantee addiction to our fiction, there ARE some common ingredients to stories readers can't put down. These 'secret' ingredients aren't exactly secret, but they are very commonly overlooked, underestimated, and ignored.

In fact, these 'secret' ingredients are SO overlooked that I'd wager it's why the majority of novels fail to sell more than 500 copies.

Writers forget why readers read, what readers want, and serve filler instead of fire.

This class will challenge everything you think you know about what makes a good story. And since these are 'secret' ingredients, I'll see you in class to explain what they are and how to use them like a PRO.

SALES For Those Who'd Rather Be Stabbed in the Face

Kristen Lamb, W.A.N.A. International, business for authors, selling for writers, sales for writers, how to sell more books

Instructor: Kristen Lamb

Price: $65.00 USD Standard

Where: W.A.N.A. Digital Classroom

When: Thursday, MARCH 7th, 2018 7:00-9:00 p.m. EST,

Writers are in the entertainment business. Notice the second half of our job title is business. The lifeblood of all business is sales.

But, to be blunt, most creative professionals would rather be stabbed in the face than 'do sales.' Yet, if we don't sell books, our career is doomed (regardless of how we publish).

One of the MAJOR reasons so many people are afraid of sales is because what's being taught as 'sales' is actually 'direct marketing.'

Direct marketing is NOT sales. It IS, however, pushy, icky, and hasn't been effective since The Spice Girls were cool.

Sales can be fun. In fact, believe it or not, humans are wired for sales. It's part of our biology. Problem is, humans are also wired to overcomplicate things...which is why so many of us freak out over sales.

This class is to remove the fear factor and clarify what selling entails for the professional author. Not all products are sold the same way...which is why there are no late-night infomercials hawking Hadron Colliders or F-16 fighter jets. Our sales approach must align with the product we're selling, or we're doomed before we begin.

This class will cover:

  • Why direct marketing doesn't sell books;
  • Time wasters versus time savers;
  • How to be paid what we are worth;
  • Ways we can make ads, promotions and marketing far more effective;
  • The unique way books must be sold;
  • How to set goals and create a scalable strategy;
  • Explore the S.W.O.T. analysis and why we need one;
  • How to differentiate our brand and product in an over-saturated marketplace;
  • AND MORE!

***A FREE recording is included with class purchase.
