Every genre has its own rules, promises if you like, they make to readers. Romance promises the guy and girl get together at the end. Westerns promise the good guy will win. Writing for the inspirational market, the Christian market (Christian Booksellers Association – CBA), has very specific (and in some cases rigid) rules about what they will and won’t read. They are looking for Christian fiction to look different and explore different topics that mainstream fiction. This audience is looking to be entertained, educated and inspired, but they don’t want reality – they want an escape from it. Writing for this market, regardless of the sub-genre (fantasy, romance, women’s lit, etc.), requires a knowledge of the storytelling rules you can and can’t break.
This class will explore the:
- 6 No-Go’s that will see readers boycott your work
- How to work in the 3 Rs: Spiritual Revelation, Redemption, and Revival
- Where you can break basic story rules (one person’s unbelievable coincidence is another’s miracle)
- How to write fiction that appeals to multiple denominations
- Expectations on YOU! (Yes, readers care about the writer’s personal life, opinions and affiliations)
A recording of this class is also included with purchase.
